Our constitution establishes three distinct membership categories, each playing a vital role in advancing our mission to improve rural health outcomes through the One Health approach. Membership is open to professionals and entities engaged in zoonotic disease research, surveillance, control, and related public health activities.

Research Affiliates
For academic and research partners who contribute to the scientific foundation of our work. Research affiliates share findings, methodologies, and innovations that enhance our field operations.
How Members Contribute
As established in our constitution, members actively contribute to our organization’s mission through specific professional activities that enhance our impact in rural communities:
Sharing research findings and data to improve intervention strategies
Providing technical assistance during disease outbreak investigations
Supporting community health education programs with expertise and resources
Collaborating in rural health initiatives through field work and assessment
Participating in training and capacity building activities for community health workers
Through these contributions, our members help create sustainable health improvements that benefit rural communities across South Africa. Each member brings unique expertise and perspective that strengthens our integrated approach to complex health challenges.
How to Apply
Membership applications are reviewed by our Governing Board based on established criteria for each membership category:
Submit your application with relevant qualifications and experience
Demonstrate your commitment to the One Health approach
Provide professional references or examples of related work
Applications are reviewed at quarterly board meetings
Successful applicants receive formal membership confirmation

Current Openings
Director of Research & Programs (Volunteer)
Lead SOHE’s research portfolio and coordinate evidence-based One Health initiatives.
Qualifications: Master’s/PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, One Health, or related field.
Commitment: 4–8 hours/week | Remote | Flexible
Director of Policy & Advocacy (Volunteer)
Shape policy frameworks and advocate for impactful One Health legislation and interventions.
Qualifications: Master’s in Public Policy, Global Health, or related fields.
Commitment: 4–6 hours/week | Remote | Flexible
Director of Communications & Outreach (Volunteer)
Drive public engagement through media, branding, and community outreach strategies.
Qualifications: Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Health.

Head of Data Science & Statistical Analysis (Volunteer)
Lead the interpretation of data to inform research, strategy, and decision-making.
